The cannabis industry is arguably one of the fastest growing in the world. Governments across the globe have started changing their stand on cannabis since it has been proven to have medicinal benefits. CBD or Cannabidiol is the superstar of the cannabis industry. This non-psychoactive compound is extracted from industrial hemp. Former NBA player Lamar Odom has launched his line of CBD products after cannabis help save his life. He is part of a growing list of celebrity athletes getting into the cannabis industry.
Odom’s vape pen was released in collaboration with Five Star Juice and his cannabis company Rich Soil Organics. The partnership between Rich Soil Organics and Five Star Juice was officially announced at the Tobacco Plus Expo in Las Vegas in February. Odom created Rich Soil Organics because cannabis and other CBD products reportedly helped him in his recovery from substance abuse.
According to the former basketball player, cannabis help save his life. Odom suffered from a severe overdose that left him in a coma. He said after the incident in 2015, he used medical cannabis in his recovery. Odom found unique strains of the cannabis plant that he credits with helping him when he underwent treatment.
“While going through rehab, I discovered certain strains that support wellness,” Lamar said in a 2018 interview. “Friends, associates, and ex-teammates asked me what solutions I was using on my road back to recovery, and that’s when Rich Soil Organics was born.”
Odom, who described himself as ” a walking miracle,” reportedly suffered from six heart attacks and 12 strokes due to overdose. He said because organic cannabis helped him recover he thought he could provide similar products for people suffering from similar conditions.
“It’s a perfect time to offer these cannabis solutions to the public who may be going through similar body issues as I am,” he added.
Rich Soil Organics, which was established in 2017, sells different cannabis products including concentrates, flowers, and CBD and THC infusions. The luxury line of products that his company sells
Lamar Odom is not the only big name athlete investing in the marijuana industry. Mike Tyson and Joe Montana have also released cannabis product lines. Odom may be following in their footsteps if his pre-sale numbers are anything to go by. According to reports, the presale numbers for Odom Vape Pen’s are impressive and have since been sold out.
Odom, who has not played in the NBA since 2012 when he overdosed, recently returned to the court. The former Los Angeles Clippers player will play in the 2019 Big3 draft pool.
“He’s worked hard, and we’re thrilled to see him return to US professional basketball at the #BIG3Season3 combine,” a league statement read.
The 39-year-old returned to professional basketball on February 1 during the Dubai International Basketball Championship.
